October 29, 2007 - The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of St. Louis presented Helmkamp Construction Company as the winner of the prestigious Keystone Award for Project of the Year, in the category of Interior Build-Out. The award was presented for the work done on the Sacred Heart Residence in St. Louis, Missouri. This is the 3rd year in a row that Helmkamp Construction Company had been awarded a Keystone Award.
The house was originally built in 1895 and has been through many transformations. To preserve the historical character of the building, much of the ornate woodwork was handcrafted to match the existing, while the original woodwork was refinished. The windows were completely stripped to the glass and re-built with new frames. The ten bedroom residence was updated to meet modern requirements and returned to its original splendor with zero accidents or incidents.
Helmkamp Construction Company also entered two other projects into this year’s awards and both were named finalists.
In the same category as the Sacred Heart Residence Renovation was the BJC/CHNE Hematology-Oncology and Cancer Care Center in St. Louis, MO.
In the category for General Construction/Construction Management-Industrial/Infrastructure Construction Under $5 Million was the Roof and Air Handling Unit Replacement for Bixby Hall at Washington University.
November 2, 2006 - The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of St. Louis presented Helmkamp Construction Company as the winner of the prestigious Keystone Award for
Project of the Year, in the category of General Contractor or Construction Manager;
Industrial/Infrastructure Construction Project Under $5 Million, for the work they performed for the Fuel Oil Containment Project for Pfizer, Inc. at their Chesterfield, MO Campus. This is the 2nd year in a row that Helmkamp Construction Company has been awarded a Keystone Award.
Updating Pfizer’s Chesterfield fuel oil supply was difficult. In a cramped space, two old fuel tanks were removed and a new containment pit 16 feet deep, 75 feet long and 55 feet wide was excavated, then enclosed in concrete with zero incidents or accidents. Four new 20,000 gallon fuel tanks were installed and new sewers added, existing sewers moved, and all necessary piping, access platforms and utilities installed. Completed in between two buildings and the main road, all vehicle/pedestrian traffic was maintained for the duration of the project.
November 3, 2005 - The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of St. Louis presented Helmkamp Construction Company as the winner of the prestigious Keystone Award for Project of the Year, in the category of General Contractor or Construction Manager; Building Construction Project Under $5 Million, for the work they performed for the 2004 Presidential Debate at Washington University in St. Louis.
To prepare for the 2004 United States Presidential Debate, Helmkamp Construction Company undertook a large-scale project that had to be completed in a difficult two-week time frame under less-than-ideal construction conditions. Helmkamp constructed media platforms inside the athletic complex, in-filled archways, installed a handicap accessible restroom and completed other miscellaneous tasks – all under tightened security and limited mobility. Helmkamp also restored the athletic complex to its original condition immediately following the debate. The work was completed within the budget and with zero accidents.
